A message is either the initial posting that begins a new discussion, a reply to the original posting, or a reply to a reply.

You can post a new message or reply to an existing one. For step-by-step instructions on how to reply to a message, see Replying to Messages.
If you chose to post a message from the Discussions portlet, select the project and discussion to which you want to post the message. The message that you post appears as a top-level message in the discussion.
Type no more than 100 characters in the Subject text box and no more than 16,000 characters in the Message Body text box.
Click Attach Documents or Upload New Documents to attach or upload a document to the message. Attachments are stored in the root folder of the project.
If you are replying to a message and want to include the message to
which you are responding, click Include previous message. The text of the previous
message appears in the body of your reply. When you are done, click Finish.

Receiving Notification E-mails
You can receive automatic notification e-mails when a new discussion is started or when a new message is added to an existing discussion. If you receive notification e-mails, you can send e-mail replies to messages that are posted to the discussion.
