About Projects

Collaboration allows portal users to work together on joint projects—sharing documents, setting schedules, and exchanging messages.

Collaboration projects provide online workspaces for members working together on a project. The features of a project are designed to facilitate teamwork and include such items as a calendar A Collaboration feature that displays items that have date and time properties., task lists A list of individual tasks required to complete a project or one phase of a project. Task Lists have date properties and can be ordered (serially organized) or unordered (no specified order). An ordered task list always has a designated current task., documents Project documents or files are uploaded to Collaboration and stored in a repository. Collaboration provides the facilities to check out documents for editing, check in document revisions, and submit project documents to the portal Knowledge Directory. Collaboration tracks all activities about a document in its file history., discussions A virtual forum that permits you and other project users to participate in online conversations. Discussions are associated with projects., announcements, and search.

Collaboration can have many projects; project information can be accessed from any community page or My Page where some or all Collaboration portlets reside.

You can participate in more than one project. Using the My Projects portlet, you can select the projects for which you want to view information. When you select more than one project to view, Collaboration displays information related to all the projects selected.

Access to project information and permissions to perform various actions on project objects are determined by the role A Collaboration mechanism that controls access levels and permissions for Collaboration objects. Users are assigned to a role, thereby determining what that user can do within a project. to which a project user is assigned.
