Creating Project Templates

This topic discusses how to create a project template from scratch.

Note: Task status data is neither copied over into projects that are created from project templates, nor into project templates that are created from projects.

To create a project template:

  1. In the My Projects portlet, click Explorer.

  2. In the table pane Upper right section of the application view. You can view the items you selected in the navigation pane in a table format. You can also view detailed information about the items in the table pane by selecting the check box next to the item. Detailed information appears on the details pane below. of the Project Explorer, click Template Project Folder.

  3. In the action bar, click in the New button, and, from the drop-down menu, select Project Template.
    The New Project Template dialog box appears.

  4. Leave Create an empty project template selected.

  5. In the Name box, type no more than 100 characters to name the project template.

  6. In the Language box, choose the default language for the project template from the list.
    The language you choose will become the language of a project created from this project template. Collaboration uses the language information when indexing the project template for searching.

  7. As an optional step, in the Description box, type no more than 1,000 characters to describe the project template.
    The description is indexed for searching.

  8. As an optional step, in the Image URL box, type the location of a small image (300 pixels wide x 200 pixels high) to place on the Project Overview page.

  9. Select one of the following methods for copying dates from this project template to a new project:

  10. If you copy dates directly from the project template, this option does not appear. Depending on the date shifting method you selected, select a base day, base week, or base month for the project template.

  11. Click Roles and Permissions, then add portal users, groups, and community members to project roles and, if desired, change the default security settings for each project role. For more information, see Roles and Permissions (Project Template).

  12. Click Functional Areas, then check the boxes next to the functional areas you wish to appear in this project. For more information about these options, see Functional Areas.

  13. Click Finish.
    You are returned to Project Explorer.
