File Check Out

When you check out the current working version of a file, it becomes unavailable to other users. They can still view the file, but they cannot make any changes until you check the file back in. When you check the revised document back in, users can view the new version and check it out for additional revision.

For step-by-step instructions on how to check out a file, see Checking Out Documents.

To check out a file:

  1. Select whether you want to:

  1. Click Finish.

After completing a check out, the file is marked as checked out and your name appears as the person who checked it out.

  2. After completing your revisions to the file, check it in.

Collaboration keeps copies of all versions of the document and a complete revision history.
